Restaurant review for Din Tai Fung

April 11, 1997

On April 11, 1997, seven Syracuse University students were denied service for being Asian and Asian American at a Denny’s restaurant in Syracuse, NY. Then, they were attacked by a group of white men at the parking lot while shouting racial anti-Asian slurs. This incident shook the Syracuse University community and many students protested after district attorneys dropped the case. As the director and producer, I wanted to illustrate the Denny’s incident and how students and multicultural organizations awakened the awareness of racism and anti-hate on Asian students today.

I had the honor to open Syracuse University’s AAPI Heritage Month Exhibition 2019 with my short documentary and be awarded the Glenn Steinfast Award for Excellence in Documentary Film Production.
